6 Fashion Trends To Take From The Catwalk For AW19

6 fashion trends to take from the catwalk for AW19

The catwalk trends for AW19 are some of the most dazzling we’ve seen in years – and we are front row for all of it. There’s something for absolutely everyone this season with preppy bourgeois coming firmly back in style along with classic 90s grunge, neon colours  This is our exclusiveShushedit of the best and biggest trends coming this autumn and winter, complete with our handpicked selection of items from our preloved shop, so that you can step into the season in confidence.

Bourgeois Beauty

Probably the Shush team’s best-loved trend to come next season is the bourgeois style, which is set to make a confident return. Think Seventies-era Paris with ladylike and classic looks bordering on just the right side of frumpy.

It’s all about sleek silk blouses, practical skirts and effortless blazers studded with bold brass buttons. Shoes are typically functional to go with the inevitable tights you need to complete this look, but you may be able to slip in a heeled number so long as it’s on the more conservative side of things.

Get the look with Shush and a silk blouse by Matthew Williamson or Magda Butrym, a Burberry blazer and a Chanel velvet suit

for those occasions where high-luxe is the only option.

Grunge

At the other end of the bourgeois scale comes the grunge trend, or what the Guardian has coined as “an elevated version” of the 90s subculture. Think Nirvana, think torn knits, think tweed, and you’re on the right track. You can also mimic Agnona’s take on things with a luxe twist on the style using mountains of cashmere and checked shirts. Either way, layers are an absolute must.

Get the look with Shush and a Prada cotton shirt, cashmere knit from Chanel and all things tweed from some of the world’s most esteemed designers. Those with a wild side should also check out this exquisite Dolce & Gabbana fringed jacket.

All Things Colour

AW19/20 is all about colour – the brighter, the better! Max Mara opened their autumn catwalk show with turquoise, cobalt and sunshine yellow and, not to be outdone, Balenciaga followed up with juicy red, acid yellow and bright, bright green. Top to toe the look or choose one statement piece – the only rule is that it must be dramatic.

Get the look with Shush and nail your outerwear with this hot pink coat made from pure rabbit fur by Dolce & Gabbana or the Chanel Paris Dallas Mohair Jacket to keep you warm and cosy in winter with bright purple and pink hues. If you prefer a more subtle take on the look, we’re loving this miniature postbox red saddle bag from Dior (it’s vintage, too!) and this classic Hermes lime green scarf in supersoft cotton.

We also love some colourful wardrobe staples like this bright green Emilio Pucci top with gorgeous patterning and keyhole detail, or the See by Chloe cardigan in peach ombre for a softer look that still gives a nod to the trend,

Yellow

Zooming into this season’s colour celebration and yellow is once again going strong for the upcoming season. This time around, it’s all about the softer shades – think spring meadows dotted with buttercups or a fresh vase of marigolds and you’re on the right track. This is a lovely way to elevate your mood and style in the darker winter months. You can go pretty with this trend too, as the catwalk shows have added ruffles, ruching and all manner of details to enhance the yellow trend.

Get the look with Shush and a beautiful silk mix yellow trench from Prada– the trench is firmly on trend this season so you can nail two looks in one. We also love these Sophie Webster Adora butterfly stiletto heels that take a pretty twist on the trend with butterfly adornments and a peep-toe finish.

Florals

An oldie but such a goodie, florals are once again on trend for AW19 and we are here for it. This time round, it’s the wallpaper style of floral in line with this season’s OTT, all-out vision which means full prints in bold or subtle shades.

Get the look with Shush and this masterpiece from Erdem– finished in pale pink and rich burgundy floral hues, this satin-jacquard strapless dress features a cape-like layer to back and a strong 1940s cocktail party vibe.

Bows & Frills

The past few seasonal trends have taken a slightly masculine edge, and the Shush team are not-so-secretly thrilled to see that pretty and more feminine influences have been making their way onto the catwalk for AW19.

Central to it all is the bows and frills trend which is so easy to wear and create your own bespoke style. There are no rules with this one – you can go over the top or have the tiniest little detail, just make it your own and the confidence will come with it.

Get the look with Shush and a timeless pair of black platform heels from Charlotte Olympia with bow detail, a Dolce & Gabbana knitted cardigan with Swarovski bow brooch that will complement absolutely any look or a sleek pyjama style silk blouse with pussy bow detail from Dolce & Gabbana.

If you prefer to wear the frilly look, we are totally in love with the delicate frills on this Tibi dress – the detail beautifully complements the romantic colour palette and thick straps. For a classic, woman means business number, we recommend this black Gucci suit with frill and pearl detail. It’s beautifully tailored with cream contrasting frill to the cuffs and hem of the trousers.
