Fashion Trends To Watch For Spring 2020

Fashion Trends To Watch For Spring 2020

Fashion trends for the Spring-Summer 2020 season are all about having fun. We’re loving some of the trends to come off the catwalk, from pretty and feminine twists on classic forms to all-out maximalist prints. This season it’s time to embrace colour, form and adventure to let your style really shine…

Pretty Little Thing

Good news for those fashion mavens who also love a feminine touch – SS20 is all about using flirty, pretty detail to add a touch of theatrics to every occasion. Think fringes (the more OTT the better), pleats and ruffles, the latter of which stormed the catwalk at London Fashion Week.

Embrace the fringe with this Chanel cashmere dress and then throw on a super-fringed Burberry leather jacket to complete the look. Check out the gorgeous range of ruffled dresses in the Shush collections – we especially adore this silk ruffled number in mint green from Anna October. For a special occasion you cannot go wrong with this collaboration dress by Alice & Olivia with Stacy Bendet having Ostrich feather fringe deatling.

Going Dotty

Continuing on the playful trends dominating SS2020 catwalks, polka dots are back. This time, it’s a sophisticated, structured style of polka dot that you need to get the look – this baby pink Lisa Marie Fernandez dress showcases the contemporary style perfectly.

Polka dots also happen to match up beautifully with another of the upcoming season’s hottest trends – the puffed sleeve. For the past few years, 80s trends just continue to make a comeback and puff sleeves are this season’s weapon of choice.

Just use the motto “the bigger, the better” and you’re on the right lines – add a sculpted look or blend with fringed detail to take things up a notch. Huishan Zhang and Zimmerman have offered some of this season’s best takes on the trend. From the Shush collections, this Moncler cropped puffer jacket features flared sleeves and does the job perfect - grab it before it goes.

Colour Chart

Florals are one of those trends that never go out of style – blend a bold floral with high-energy colours, trends and cuts to get the dramatic maximalist look that is everything SS 2020 fashion stands for. There are no rules here – clashing hues, oversized details, OTT silhouettes, blend it all up and add in this season’s other fun trends such as ruffles, pleats and fringing to really make an impact.

Badgley Mischka have created some of this season’s standout maximalist looks with flowing, draped pieces. Our team at Shush just can’t get enough of this trend – get started with this Chanel jacket where large floral embroidery meets metallic threads in red and blue and tweed in all colours of the rainbow.

Some other gorgeous preloved designer pieces that will up the colour ante include this high-waist, orange mini skirt with multicolour floral print patterning, this bright and joyful viscose and silk dress by Etro and this unique maxi dress from Emilio Pucci featuring abstract print and lattice detail.

Silver Service

If you like to make a big impact but prefer to zoom in on the colour palette or keep things simpler, the SS20 catwalk has also seen silver storm back into style. Unlike the majority of other SS20 trends, this one is best worn with a toned down aesthetic that allows the metallics to take centre stage. Wear silver as the main event or as part of the detail in your accessories – just have fun with it. This gold and silver jumpsuit from Roland Mouret is the stuff that dreams are made of.

Natural and Neutral

If you’re more of a fashion newbie or like to keep things subtle, this next trend will have you breathing a sigh of relief: neutrals. The catwalk style at Paris Fashion Week embraced neutrals with open arms for a type of transcendent, effortless chic. It’s an easy type of look to wear and that’s the idea – just choose pieces with a simple cut in beige tones and you’ve nailed the trend.

This Chanel beige vintage jacket is a gorgeous way to wear the look and nail transitional dressing – with white and black horizontal stitching and a relaxed fit, it’s super-comfortable and stylish. This Celine trench coat in soft calf leather is a classic way to wear the trend – you can also opt for neutrals with your accessories such as classic Chanel loafers or an elegant clutch from Christian Louboutin.

Stitch Up

You might think of crochet as more something that you do to pass time while watching telly in the evening or taking a long train journey, but it also happens to be the firm favourite trend of many high-end designers for the upcoming season. If you’re wondering how to wear this through the spring and summer, then the see-through style of the material naturally lends itself to easy dressing throughout the warmer weather.

This maxi dress from Charo Ruiz Ibiza embraces the trend with a pure, simple aesthetic thanks to the pure white material, elegant fall of the fabric and scalloped V-neck finish. You can also opt for a mini dress style in baby blue tones for a super-feminine look.

It’s All White

With a twist on the classic white shirt also presenting a firm trend for SS2020, opt for a relaxed fit white top with subtle lace detail from Victoria Beckham for a beautiful way to nail two trends in one. This season, designers including Valentino have chosen to dress up and reinvent the crisp white shirt with all types of embellishment, including cropping and ruching, so you can have fun with your style.
