Shush London specialise in second hand, preloved Rolex watches and accessories, and all our pieces are authenticated by our expert team. Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis, Rolex is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer based in Geneva, Switzerland. Rolex is the largest single luxury watch brand, producing about 2,000 watches per day. The company is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, a private trust. Rolex SA is the trading name of Rolex Group, which also includes Harrison, Tudor Watch Company and other Swiss watch brands. The history of Rolex began when Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis set up their business in London in 1905. They were both German migrants who had moved to England to escape the political unrest in their homeland. Initially, they imported pocket watches from Switzerland and sold them to jewellers in London. In 1908, they registered the trademark "ROLES" and began stamping their watches with this brand name. By 1916, they had moved their operations to Geneva, Switzerland in order to avoid the heavy taxation on luxury goods in Britain. In 1918, Wilsdorf registered the now-famous "Rolex" trademark and registered it as a company name in 1927. The first wristwatch bearing the Rolex name was produced in 1919. It was called "The Prince" and was marketed to aviators due to its ability to withstand high altitudes and vibration. In 1926, Rolex released the "Oyster", the world's first water-resistant wristwatch. This was followed by the release of the "Perpetual rotor" self-winding mechanism in 1931, which is still used in Rolex watches today. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, it continued to innovate with new models such as the "Datejust", which was released in 1945 and featured a date display window at 3 o'clock on the dial. In 1953, Rolex released perhaps its most iconic model: the "Submariner". This waterproof wristwatch was designed for professional divers and quickly became a favourite among Adventurers and celebrities alike. In 1955, Rolex debuted another milestone wristwatch: The "Day-Date". This model was the first wristwatch to feature a date display window as well as the day of the week spelled out in full. Today, Rolex produces a wide range of luxurious wrist watches for both men and women. Their collections include everything from sporty GMT Master II models designed for travellers to elegant Day-Date models adorned with diamonds and precious metals. No matter what your style or budget may be, there is sure to be a second hand and preloved Rolex watch that is perfect for you at Shush London.
